In the follow-up to his critical and commercial success Beasts of the Southern Wild, writer-director Benh Zeitlin takes his dreamy lens to Neverland.
Wendy, which will be released in Feb. 2020, offers a new take on J.M. Barrie’s influential novel. We follow our the title character, Wendy (Devin France) as she runs away from home, chased after by her two brothers. While hopping on a train, Wendy finds herself on a strange island which makes time and aging go funny.
On the otherworldly island, she finds the other lost children and their society. She meets, of course, their leader Peter Pan, who takes her under his wing. So to speak anyway. The group of lost children are surrounded by threats: sea monsters, volcanoes on the verge of eruption, pirates on a barge, and more. Terrifyingly, it looks like the longer they stay on Neverland, the more they forget about their home.
The trailer is just as gorgeously lush as Beast of the Southern Wild. Zeitlin continues his mark on lush, gorgeous shots and stories focus on brave and clever children trying to figure out their way in the world.
Check out the trailer below.
Wendy will be released on Feb. 28.
