It is safe to say Tom Holland is getting in touch with his dark side for his latest film.
The actor took to Instagram on Friday to share the first look for Cherry, his newest project with the Russo Brothers, whom directed Holland in Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Holland is the lead in the film, Nico Walker, an army Iraq War vet who is dealing with an opoid addiction and PTSD that leads him to start robbing banks to support his habit.
The English actor captioned the first look with “No alarms. I’m a wanted man. They’ll kill me…”, an actual quote from the semi-autobiographical novel Cherry by Nico Walker.
Holland looks like he has fully embraced his character as the actor has mentioned recently that he has been losing weight for this role along with revealing a newly shaven head.
Joining Holland on the upcoming are Ciara Bravo, Bill Skarsgård, Jack Reynor, Jeff Wahlberg, Kyle Harvey, Forrest Goodluck, and Michael Gandolfini.
As for the real life Nico Walker, the author was convicted of crimes relating to bank robbery in 2011 and is set to be released from prison in 2020. Walker recently spoke about his book and the circumstances featured in it, saying “The military parts are the ones that most closely mirror my experience. But even then, there’s a lot that’s quite different.”
It will be interesting to see how much Holland is branching out with his acting potential with this role. The actor really hasn’t gone “dark” in the past with his roles but can definitely give a good dramatic performance. Check out his role in The Impossible (bring tissues while you are at it).
Cherry is currently slated to hit theaters sometime in 2020.
