Looks like Amazon likes what it sees so far with its upcoming Lord of the Rings series.
The streaming giant announced on Tuesday that it will be renewing the new series for a second season, which is quite amazing considering pre-production is currently underway for the first season. That’s right, season one has not even been completed yet.
As it stands, the full cast for the upcoming series is not quite set. Markella Kavenagh, Will Poulter, and Joseph Mawle have been the only casting announcements released so far.
Upon announcing that it would be developing and producing a Lord of the Rings series, Amazon did share that it would give the series a two-season commitment. The actual renewal of the second season, though, was not completely locked until now, with Amazon giving it the full green light.
Not much is known about the series as far as the plot is concerned at this time. The only aspect that is known is that it will be exploring new events and storylines that take place before J. R. R. Tolkien’s “The Fellowship of the Ring.” The show’s official Twitter account did tease “Welcome to the Second Age” in an image, which in Tolkien mythology was the time when the Rings of Power were created.
Here’s hoping more new of this upcoming series comes to light as it sounds like it is off to a great start with the developments so far.
