Things are going off the rails in the first teaser of Avenue 5. The newest HBO comedy from Veep creator Armando Iannucci heads into space and a disaster that is awaiting the crew and passengers of luxury liner in the stars.
The series is set 40 years in the future where space tourism has become the norm. The ship, Avenue 5, that Ryan Clark (Hugh Laurie), the confident and suave captain, captains has the kind of amenities you would expect of an ocean liner: yoga classes, gourmet buffets, lovely views, a spa. It’s just all in space.
It is weird to hear Laurie’s American accent in a non-House context though. Just saying.
When Avenue 5’s trip around Saturn goes unexpectedly off the rails, it’s up to Ryan and his crew in order to keep passengers calm and handle the disasters that keep popping up around them. Yikes. Cruises can go terribly wrong in the middle of the ocean. Can you imagine that in space?
The cast also includes Josh Gad, Zach Woods, Rebecca Front, Suzy Nakamura, Lenora Crichlow, Nikki Amuka-Bird and Ethan Phillips.
Take a look at the teaser below.
Avenue 5 is set to premiere on HBO in Jan. 2020. There’s no date for the release at this time.
