The most recent season of Peaky Blinders just flew by. We waited nearly two years to see what the Shelby clan was up to, and it turns out, they were up to a fair bit. They had lost everything on the New York Stock Exchange following the Wall Street Crash, while Arthur’s relationship with his wife was spiraling out of control.
As for the leader, Tommy (Cillian Murphy), he was excelling in his position as an MP for Birmingham and making friends in high places. The most notable of which was Oswald Mosley. However, towards the end of the season, it would appear that Tommy was about to form an unlikely alliance with Winston Churchill to stave off the threat of a fascist uprising led by Mosley.
The season answered a fair few questions, but we were left with even more. The family is in complete disarray with the younger members of the gang looking to overthrow Tommy, while Alfie Solomans is back, and questions surrounding Tommy’s mental health remain. It isn’t hard to see why WeLoveBrum.co.uk rates this show so highly. It is a television show, unlike any other, and the cultural impact that it has had has been profound. But, with another two-year wait until the next season, we can only speculate on what may be about to come. But what could we expect to see?
Tommy Overcoming Ghost of Grace
A recurring theme throughout the whole season revolved around Tommy possibly feeling guilty over the death of Grace back in season three. Grace is constantly seen in scenes asking Tommy to shoot himself, with the final scene of the entire season revolving around this. Did Tommy do it?
It is unlikely given that the next season was already announced, and the leader of the Peaky Blinders is best when his back is against the wall, and the cards are stacked against him. But, how he will overcome this will be intriguing.
Who Betrayed The Peaky Blinders?
The final episode of the season centered around the planned assassination of Mosley that has been planned by the Birmingham gang. But, in the final seconds, before the fatal shot was fired, the assailant was shot on the balcony. It was clear that the gang was betrayed by someone as both Arthur and Abarama Gold were attacked at the side of the stage. Did Mosley know? He certainly must have given by his parting words to Tommy on the stage.
There are a host of characters that could have been to blame. The outright favorite would certainly be Michael, who was vying for the top spot in the gang throughout the season. Alfie also could have had a part in the betrayal as he was meant to play a crucial role in the assassination. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
Mosley and Gina
One of the most intriguing aspects that we never really got to the bottom of surrounded Mosley and Michael’s American wife, Gina. The two constantly shared looks at each other, and viewers were adamant that they knew each other.
There is a distinct possibility that she may have been his informant and the one that eventually played a crucial role in the downfall of the assassination. She constantly tried to make Michael betray Tommy, and it could simply be that Gina was the one that pulled the trigger on the tactic and Michael may have been innocent.
Unfortunately, all we can do is speculate at this point as we will have to wait until at least 2021 for the follow-up.
