With less than a month to go until the Royal Family is back on our screens, Netflix has finally decided to stop teasing fans and has released a full trailer for the upcoming third season of their critically acclaimed hit drama series The Crown.
The times are certainly different for the Royal Family as with this new season, a new cast joins the action. Oscar winner Olivia Colman is taking over for Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II. Based on the trailer, it appears that the Queen is settling more and more into the old-fashion ways of the past, which doesn’t sit well with the rest of the UK as protesters have taken to the streets, demanding change.
All of the trouble has the Queen doubting herself, of course, as she states in the trailer, “This country was still great when I came to the throne. All that’s happened on my watch is the place has fallen apart.” She does get some reassurance from Princess Margaret (played now by Helena Bonham-Carter) that the monarchy helps “paper over the cracks” of a fractured society.
Joining Colman and Bonham-Carter as part of the new cast are Tobias Menzies as Prince Philip (whom we do get to feast our eyes on in the trailer), and Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, who isn’t living his best life as he appears to be torn between love and duty like others before him as he is not so kindly reminded by his mother that “We have all made sacrifices and repressed who we are. It is not a choice. It is a duty.”

The Crown returns to Netflix on Sunday, November 17th.
