Kerry Washington is a mother on the edge during one very tense night in the trailer for Netflix’s American Son. The former Scandal star reprises her lead role from the Broadway play of the same name in the film version of it.
The play (and script) were written by Christopher Demos-Brown with the film directed by Kenny Leon takes place in a Miami, Florida holding area while a storm rages outside. Washington and Steven Pasquale (Rescue Me) play an estranged couple who are desperately searching for their missing son. They, Washington especially, are just barely hanging on. Also there are two police officers played by Jeremy Jordan (Supergirl) and Eugene Lee (The District), who are not helping things at all.
The tense trailer promises some major drama as those who have seen the stage play can attest. In the trailer, Washington gives a command performance and I see serious campaigning during awards season in the future.
A poster for the film was released, which shows Washington center stage with Pasquale and Jordan in a tense stand-off in the background. The tagline is “There’s Been An Incident”.
American Son comes to Netflix on Nov. 1.
