There’s a giant wave of excitement going through fans of superhero shows today.
Tom Welling will be reprising his role as Clark Kent/Superman in the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Welling famously played Clark on Smallville from 2001 to 2011, which is considered the progenitor of the modern day superhero genre, especially for the CW.
On the casting, Marc Guggenheim said, “For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it. So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”
Welling is the third Superman to be included in the crossover. Tyler Hoechilin will reprise his version of the character from Supergirl and Brandon Routh, who plays Ray Palmer on Legends of Tomorrow, will be donning a Kingdom Come Superman suit. (Routh played the character in Superman Returns.)
Fingers crossed that Erica Durance, who plays Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) mother Alura on Supergirl, will reprise as Lois Lane. Or, better yet, Michael Rosenbaum reprising as Lex Luthor. Jon Cryer did an excellent job on Supergirl, but, dear God, we just want to see Rosenbaum in the role again.
EW also promised that fans of Smallville will find out what Welling’s Clark Kent has been up to in the eight years since Smallville ended.
What a time to be alive, huh?
Crisis on Infinite Earths will air on three nights in December 2019 (Supergirl on Sunday, Dec. 8, followed by Batwoman on Monday, Dec. 9 and The Flash on Tuesday, Dec. 10) before concluding on Tuesday, January 14 with Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.
