Guys. This is a piece of news I never thought possible. Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum are returning to the Jurassic Park franchise in Jurassic World 3. The three haven’t all been together in a single film since 1993’s Jurassic Park. Dern and Neill reunited in 2001’s Jurassic Park III and Goldblum reprised his role as Ian Malcolm in Fallen Kingdom. However, both Dern and Goldblum only reprised their roles in their respective films in cameo appearances.
This time, Ellie Sattler, Alan Grant, and Ian Malcolm are returning in a much larger capacity.
At a screening of Jurassic World in Hollywood last night, Trevorrow revealed that the three beloved characters would return in sizeable roles for 2021’s as yet untitled Jurassic World 3. Plot details for JW3 have been kept super secret so nothing is known about how Grant, Sattler, and Malcolm will feature in the new film, but it will be a great meeting of characters once the film is finally revealed.
Pre-production on the film has already started and Trevorrow recently released a short film titled Battle At Big Rock which was set one year following the events of Fallen Kingdom. For those who don’t remember, the sequel featured not only a cloned little girl named Maisie but an auction for the animals who were saved from Isla Nublar after a volcano threatened their lives. The animals were once again saved when Maisie released them into the wild. Only now they are wild on the entire continent of the United States and not a single, self-contained island.
Obviously, this is a very bad situation as Battle At Big Rock shows when a family camping trip goes awry. Here’s to hoping that Big Rock will feature in some way to JW3 when all is said and done.
Trevorrow wrote JW3 with Emily Carmichael and will also return to direct the end to the franchise. I am super excited to see all these familiar faces returning and meshing with the Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Owen (Chris Pratt). I’m eager to see just how Dr. Henry Wu (brilliantly portrayed by B.D. Wong) will be received, especially since he’s been turned into a villain. This especially fascinating since Grant, Sattler, and Malcolm have such a long and interesting history with him and his work.
Just for a little bit of fun to wrap up this exciting news, here is a video that the Jurassic World Twitter page posted three hours ago. Enjoy and hit the comments below to tell us how excited you are for this awesome sauce news.
