Arrow Developing A Female-Centric Spin-Off With Katherine McNamara

This year marks the end of the era when Arrow wraps its run with his eighth and final season. Now, we have to wonder, what will fill the Arrow shaped hole in our lives?

Well we probably don’t have to wait long to see. If things go to plan, anyway.

According to Entertainment Weekly, a spin-off series is in the works with Katherine McNamara (Mia Smoak/Green Arrow), Katie Cassidy Rodgers (Laurel Lance/Black Canary), and Juliana Harkavy (Dinah Drake/Black Canary) to star. The show will be introduced via a backdoor pilot during the final run of Arrow.

Right now, not a lot is known about the show’s plot or any substantive details. Beth Schwartz, Arrow‘s current showrunner, is set to pen the backdoor pilot with Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship, and Oscar Balderrama. If picked up to series, then all of them will serve as EPs along with Arrowverse progenitor Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.

During season seven, Schwartz introduced the “flash-forwards” in Arrow, which follows the cast of the series in the future. It introduced concepts such as the Canary Network and followed Mia Smoak along with her half-brother William (Ben Lewis) and Connor Hawke (Joseph David-Hones) as they struggled to understand what happened in the past to lead to their future amongst other things.

This currently appears to be confirmation of a long-running theory that the “flash-forwards” were prep for a spin-off series following the adventures of Future Team Arrow.

Arrow begins its final season on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 9/8c on The CW.
