Fantasy readers might be excited to know that Amazon Prime are adapting the epic fantasy The Wheel of Time and we have casting news for you.
The latest news, according to TVLine, is that Criminal Minds‘ Daniel Henney will take on the role of al’Lan Mandragoran in the series which is based on the fourteen book series of the same name by the late Robert Jordan, and complete by Brandon Sanderson.
Other cast members announced include Rosamund Pike as Moiraine, Josa Stradowski as Rand al’Thor alongside Marcus Rutherford , Zoë Robins, Barney Harris, and Madeleine Madden.
The press release tells us the saga is set in a “sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it.” It tells the tale of Moiraine, “a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.”
The Wheel of Time, which was greenlit last October and will have Rafe Judkins (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) serve as showrunner and executive producer. The series is being directed by Uta Briesewitz, who helmed episodes of Westworld, Stranger Things and Altered Carbon. It is being produced by Sony Pictures Television.
The Wheel of Time is currently in pre-production and while no official release date has been announced, it is slated for sometime during 2021. Which should give an avid reader enough time to read the novels.
