Are you ready to see a group of badass lady spies led by Lupita Nyong’o (Us) and Jessica Chastain (It: Chapter 2)?
We sure are. Unfortunately, we’ll need to wait a bit before we get to see it.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the spy thriller 355 has set its release date for January 15th, 2021. The film stars Nyong’o, Chastain, Penélope Cruz (Everybody Knows), Diane Kruger (The Operative), and Fan Bingbing (X-Men: Days of Future Past) as a crew of international spies. Plot details are being kept under wraps at this time.
Even so, with that cast? We’re still excited as all get out.
The film will be directed by Simon Kinberg, who produced the X-Men franchise and directed Dark Phoenix. The idea for the film came from Chastain, who serves a producer for the project. She shared it with Kinberg while on the set of Dark Phoenix. The pair teamed with Smash writer Theresa Rebeck for the film’s script.
Universal Studios will distribute the film in North America. It faced some delays when Fan Bingbing had to go into hiding following being accused of tax evasion in her native China. She eventually had to pay the Chinese government the equivalent of USD$131 million.
Chastain, previously, released a video of the preproduction process. It shows Kruger and Chastain at the gun range while Bingbing and Nyong’o sport boxing gloves. You can watch it below.
355 will, again, be released on January 15th, 2021.
