Disney+ made it’s D23 Expo debut with a massive presentation on Friday afternoon in Anaheim, CA. Among the major announcements was news about Lucasfilm’s The Mandalorian and a first look at the new live-action series. Check out the trailer below.
Set after the fall of the Empire and before the First Order comes on the scene, The Mandalorian follows a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy, far from the authority of the New Republic. The series boasts an impressive cast including Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, and Giancarlo Esposito. Taika Waititi is also on board to bring the droid IG-11 (below) to life.
Brand new Disney Legend Ming-Na Wen will also join the cast of The Mandalorian, which is executive produced by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. Favreau will also serve as a writer on the series, whose first season will consist of eight episodes and premiere in November when Disney+ launches.
Wen, who recently wrapped the final and seventh season of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, spoke to Syfy Wire about D23 about her casting in The Mandalorian saying, “I was so excited when [Disney chairman Bob Iger] announced it, because I’ve been waiting to talk about it. You don’t understand — that is a Star Wars geek girl’s dream come true.”
Although she couldn’t reveal any details about her role, Wen teased, “I certainly don’t play a farmer!”
