When Arrow returns for its final season this fall, it will be down another series regular. This time, it’s another archer that is set to exit the show for Season 8.
It was announced on Thursday that Colton Haynes is not set to be back as a series regular for the show’s 10 episode final season. Haynes is the second series regular announced as not returning, following Emily Bett Rickards’ departure as a series regular.
Meanwhile, Katherine McNamara (who plays Mia), Ben Lewis (William) and Joseph David-Jones (Connor) were all promoted to be series regulars for Season 8.
Showrunner Beth Schwartz shared with Green Arrow TV that “we hope to have him back” while discussing the change in status for Haynes’ Roy Harper. The actor did take to Twitter to add some clarity about his status.
Haynes was promoted to a series regular for Season 7 as part of the flash-forward arc for that season. Roy’s storyline for the flash-forwards still has some explaining to do as it still isn’t really known hy Roy had exiled himself to Lian Yu, decades after his falling out with Thea.
It would be a shame if Haynes didn’t come back for Arrow‘s swan song given how much Roy has meant to the show and its overall success. Haynes has been a part of the show’s fabric since season 1 and even though he hasn’t been a series regular all of this time, any scene he’s in tends to pack quite the emotional punch.
Here’s hoping we haven’t seen the last of him. Arrow returns this fall to the CW.
