The Russo Bros On The Avengers: Endgame Scene That Was A Bit “Controversial”

Avengers: Endgame closed the chapter on a lot of things for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it. For a lot of fans of Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), they didn’t really like how things ended. In fact, his ending is something controversial for that corner of the internet.

One moment, however, fans can agree on enjoying is the whole joke on Steve’s ass being “America’s ass”. To be fair, Chris Evans does have a great derriere. It also, however, was something controversial when making the film.

In the commentary from Avengers: Endgame, the Russo Brothers along with writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus discussed the line, which became a fan favorite joke.

Joe Russo said, “And here we are looking at the backside of a famous scene from Avengers.”

Markus said, “Speaking of backsides, there’s America’s backside.”

Russo revealed, “A completely different perspective. And then probably the most controversial joke in the whole movie, ‘America’s ass.’ Controversial for all of us. That was hotly debated.”

For fans, it was a nice poke at the 2012 Captain America uniform, which wasn’t a fan favorite (or a fave of Evans). It was just a pretty funny joke, showcasing Steve’s own sense of humor. Plus, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) said the line and he’s thirsty as all hell for our good Captain, bless him.

Avengers: Endgame is available for purchase.
