HBO’s newest series His Dark Materials made quite the splash during its  San Diego Comic Con debut on Thursday when it took over the famed Hall H for its panel. Attendees were treated to quite a major reveal as  the show dropped its first full official trailer.

The series, based on the Philip Pullman series of novels, will follow the story of Lyra, an orphan who lives in a parallel universe in which science, theology and magic are entwined. Lyra’s search for a missing friend uncovers an evil plot involving stolen children and turns into a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust.

Based on the trailer that was released, little Lyra has quite the battle to deal with. The panel at SDCC featured X-Men‘s James McAvoy (as Lord Asriel), The Affair‘s Ruth Wilson (as Mrs. Coulter), Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda (as aeronaut Lee Scoresby) and Logan star Dafne Keen (as the aforementioned Lyra).

Miranda, McAvoy, Keen, and Wilson took the time during the panel answer from fan questions along with teasing some of the scenes from the upcoming series. Miranda revealed that his first scene on the show is singing a duet with demon. McAvoy, on the other hand, shared that he thought the whole story is about freedom and that is Lord Asriel’s missoin throughout the story.

The panel also revealed that His Dark Materials appealed to HBO because there really isn’t anything else like it on television. The cast also shared how this series connected to each other on a personal level, most particularly with Miranda who revealed that he and his wife read the series together when they first started dating.
