Geek Couture took over Thursday night as the 6th annual Her Universe Fashion Show returned to San Diego Comic-Con International (SDCC). The fashion show is critically acclaimed as one of the must-see events at SDCC and featured 24 designers competing with their original geek couture designs to win the ultimate
The theme for this year’s show was “The Power of Fashion.” In the spirit of the critically acclaimed series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, the designs competing in this year’s show were inspired by powerful
characters, stories, and themes. Many surprises were in store, including the big reveal that Her Universe founder Ashley Eckstein will be joining the She-Ra series. No details were released about her character were released.
On the judges panel were Ed LaBay (VP/GMM, Hot Topic), LizMuñoz (CEO, Torrid), Lisa Baldzicki (VP Parks Merchandise & Product Development, Disney Parks), Meghan Camarena (@Strawburry17, Producer, Host, Actress), Merit Leighton (Voice of Frosta, on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power), Michaela Dietz (Actress, Voice of Amethyst, Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe), Kristi Siedow Thompson (Designer, 2018 Audience Winner), Cynthia Kirkland (Designer, 2018 Judge’s Winner) and Jane Burson (Designer, 2018 Singer Sewing Winner).
It was also announced that the two winners selected, the judges’ choice and the audience’s choice, would be starting to work immediately after the fashion show. As for the theme of what they will be working on, it was revealed that they would be doing a fashion line dedicated to the upcoming Wonder Woman sequel.
Walking away with the top two prizes were Adria Renee with her Destination: Isla Nubar design as the judges’ winner, and Sarah Hambly with her Bodak Green Loki design as the audience winner.
