You know it’s going to be a good day when you are starting it off in Hall H.
It’s inevitable.
You know it’s going to be an even better day in Hall H when you start your day off with a question and answer session from the two men who brought us Infinity War and Endgame – the writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.
The two went through a lot of the trials and tribulations they faced while working on this epic project that took years to complete – in fact the script was always changing. One of the examples they gave was Smart Hulk.
Our first time meeting Smart Hulk was supposed to be in Infinity War but while they were filming they realized that the story wasn’t flowing and they needed to figure something out because Endgame had already been filmed with Smart Hulk.
Enter the five years later scene.
That one specific thing wasn’t the only reason for the five years later of course. According to Markus and McFeely the purpose of it was to put the failure of these superheroes we all know and love at the centre of the film; the rest of the film is now set up for us to watch how the superheroes are dealing with that individually.
Another really interesting thing Markus and McFeely talked about on the panel was how they sorted out the time heist because that in itself has its own issues to sort out – how are they going to make time travel work in this film.
Markus and McFeely actually talked to physicists about the science behind time travel and how they could do it in the movie. Basically don’t do it like Back to the Future.
On top of the science they also had to figure out, you know, where the actual stones were and at what time to make sure the plot worked with the rest of the films. They actually showed us a picture of how they did it and some of their plot planning process.

Here are some other fun tidbits of information Markus and McFeely gave the audience:
The writer's knew the only person who would be able to put #Thor back together was his mom which is why they decided to put that scene in the movie instead of us seeing rocket collecting the reality stone #MarvelSDCC #SDCC2019

The writer's wanted to take out expectations of what was going to happen in #Endgame early re: why they killed Thanos within the first 19 minutes of the movie #MarvelSDCC #SDCC19

In mid 2016 no one liked what they had for #InfinityWar and had to reconvene to fix it – the Thor storyline was a mess and they needed to sort that immediately #MarvelSDCC #SDCC2019

There was a scene in Infinity War that had #DoctorStrange punch Thanos' mind to go through his history and see all his past doings as a way to shame him but they had to take it out for pacing issues…would be weird to have that scene in the middle of a giant fight #MarvelSDCC

They explored different ways on how to show that everyone returned including Peter showing up saying “Mister Stark” as he reappeared and a pizza party of sorts. #MarvelSDCC #AvengersEndgame #SDCC2019 #SDCC

They knew that the “On Your Left” line would have more of an impact and help with staging that last battle. #MarvelSDCC #AvengersEndgame #SDCC2019
