Will marriage destroy the bond between Aurora (Elle Fanning) and Maleficent (Angelina Jolie)?
The original 2013 film saw things end in a happy place. It was the true love that Maleficent felt for Aurora that broke the curse she casted on the girl as a baby. Now, days after her awakening, Philip (Harris Dickinson) has asked for her hand in marriage.
Needless to say, Maleficent isn’t thrilled. Things seem to go from bad to worse when Aurora begs her to meet Philip’s parents. His mother, Queen Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer), does not seem pleased at the influence Maleficent had in Aurora’s life either. It goes from bad to worse following an outburst of magic from the fairy, who grows even more upset as Aurora refuses to listen to her.
Soon, it devolves into warfare, even though, deep down, neither Maleficent or Aurora want to fight each other.
And then, well, then there are the other fairies like Maleficent to throw into the mix. Which is definitely a surprise. I may have gasped when I saw Chiwetel Ejiofor’s character at the end of the trailer and his group of fairies like Maleficent surrounding her.
Check out the trailer below.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil premieres October 18th.
