Lupita Nyong’o Plays The Ukulele And Fights Zombies In First Trailer For Little Monsters

Miss Frizzle’s got nothing on Little Monsters‘ Miss Caroline (Lupita Nyong’o) in the film’s first trailer.

While Nyong’o terrified us in, well, Us, she takes a 180 in the horror-comedy Little Monsters. The film follows Nyong’o’s Miss Caroline, a kindergarten teacher, who takes her class to a petting zoo. The petting zoo, however, is right near a military installation where an experiment goes horribly wrong and unleashes zombies onto the unsuspecting group.

The only other adults are drunk and belligerent children’s entertainer Teddy McGiggle (Josh Gad) and Dave (Alexander England), an uncle of one Miss Caroline’s students who went on the trip as a chaperone (and too woo Caroline). Neither man are really any help.

Even so, it’s up to Caroline, Dave, and Teddy McGiggle along with the precocious kindergarten class to survive the field trip from hell.

Nyong’o, unsurprising, is amazing as the sunny Miss Caroline, who kicks ass and takes no prisoners to protect her young charges. Plus she plays the ukulele. Josh Gad is playing, perhaps, the role he was born to play as Teddy McGiggle. I don’t much of England’s previous work, but he’s appears serviceable in his role as Dave. The kids are awesome, adding a nice slightly demented aspect to the proceedings.

The director, Abe Forsythe, described the film as “R-rated Pixar movie”.

The film will be released in the U.K. on November 15th and will be released in the US on Hulu.
