San Diego Comic Con is just around the corner. This means that in less than a week we will be bombarded with new announcements on our favorite tv shows and movies on an hourly basis. But it seems that The CW wanted to get a head-start on the convention craze, as the network has just confirmed a number of faces set to return for Arrow’s final season.
The superhero show that started it all will return this fall for a shortened eight season, which will find Oliver battling the dangers of the multiverse, and “confront the reality of what it means to be a hero”.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Katherine McNamara will reprise her role as Mia Smoak, and as a series regular, too! We’ve met Oliver and Felicity’s daughter in last season’s flash forwards as she was looking for her mother, and ultimately teamed up William, Conor and Zoe to form Team Arrow 2.0.
Now season eight sees Mia step into her father’s footsteps in leading this newly-formed team, but not without initial growing pains.
“They’re struggling with how to be a team for the first time”, said Arrow Executive Producer Beth Schwartz. Not having their parents around to teach them superhero 101 is an added factor.
In other exciting news, The CW has also revealed that two of the past seasons’ fan favorites will be returning in the final episodes: Colin Donnell and Josh Segarra are set to reprise their roles as Tommy Merlyn and Adrian Chase for a guest stint.
This is Arrow and we can’t have nice things, of course.Tommy and Adrian likely won’t be brought back from the dead just like that, but will take on a very different version of their established characters.
Donnell starred as Oliver’s best friend Tommy, who died a hero’s death in the season one finale, but due to the character’s popularity Tommy has been brought back at any chance, whether in flashbacks, hallucinations or alternate realities. Segarra had joined Arrow in season five as what could easily be the series’ best villain to date, also known as Prometheus.
Fingers crossed that we will not only see series star Stephen Amell at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con panel on Saturday, July 20th. Hopefully, he will be joined by McNamara, Donnell and Segarra!
Arrow returns with its final season on Tuesday, October 15 at 9/8c on The CW.
