They have been teasing us for months on social media about a possible collaboration between American musician/DJ/producer Steve Aoki and Darren Criss. This escalated this week with the announcement that they were going to appear together at the iHeart music festival this September in Las Vegas and that they would be releasing a cover of Dave Matthews Band’s “Crash Into Me”. Now at long last we can finally listen to the results with “Crash Into Me” released worldwide yesterday, and it was certainly worth the wait.

The 1996 released “Crash Into Me” was a single off the rock band’s second album and was nominated for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with vocals at the 1998 Grammys. While Dave Matthews Band largely unfamiliar with the band here in Australia, I had heard of them through some US friends but this song was entirely new to me and I certainly am enjoying this cover.

“Crash Into Me” is definitely a fun, nostalgic song with a great 90s feel, but with a modern twist. Even though we’re in the depths of winter here down under, this is the perfect summer hit to blast on your trip to the beach or cruising on long summer nights. The graphics produced for the single perfectly encapsulate all this as well.

Criss celebrated the release with his team and friends at a Barry’s Bootcamp session in LA. No doubt we’ll get the chance to see this single performed live at iHeart and if the social media antics the pair have been up to any time they meet up is anything to go by, this performance will be one you do not want to miss.

“Crash Into Me” is available now.
