Cartoon Network probably just made a whole lot of Steven Universe fans really happy this week. Since it announced that it was giving the world a Steven Universe movie, the network has been pretty tightlipped about sharing any details about the film. Thankfully this week, they have decided to share quite a bit, with the biggest news being that the film will actually be a musical!
The network revealed the musical twist in a new trailer by literally spelling it out. While the trailer didn’t provide any new footage or teaser clips from the upcoming movie musical, it did share who all was set to be involved in the film’s soundtrack.
The list is impressive as the trailer shared that the musical is set to feature new songs by Rebecca Sugar in collaboration with Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Winners”, which include Chance The Rapper, Estelle, Patti LuPone, Uzo Aduba, Gallant, Aimee Man, and more to be announced later.
Check out the trailer below!
For those who are new to the series, the show is about a team called The Crystal Gems, a group of magical beings who defend the universe. Steven is actually half-human and half-Gem and is treated as the little brother of the team, as he’s still learning how to use the magical powers that come from his bellybutton. While he might not be as skilled or powerful as teammates Pearl, Amethyst, or Garnet, he often finds a uniquely Steven way to save the day.
Given the list of stars who will be involved in the music, this is definitely one very epic movie. The collaboration possibilities are endless, and it will be truly exciting to see who will be working with certain characters.
Steven Universe The Musical doesn’t have a premiere date set at this time but we are sure that will be coming out soon.
