Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Ariana Grande And More Join Ryan Murphy’s Netflix Movie The Prom

Ryan Murphy’s next big project for Netflix is on track to be quite production casting wise with the latest news to hit the internet.

The streaming giant just announced seven big names that are set to join the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical, The Prom. Among those announced are Oscar Winning actresses Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman, both whom are currently starting in the Emmy winning series Big Little Lies.

Streep is set to play Dee Dee Allen, a two-time Tony winner who earns career-ending reviews for a flop musical about Eleanor Roosevelt. As for Kidman, she joins Andrew Rannells and James Corden as the central quartet of struggling thespians, playing the respective roles of Angie Dickinson, Trent Oliver and Barry Glickman.

For those unfamiliar with The Prom, it follows the story of four down-and-out theater actors who head to Indiana, where they help a teen whose prom was cancelled when she tried to bring her girlfriend as her date.

Also joining Kidman, Streep, Corden, and Rannells is Ariana Grande as popular classmate Alyssa, the daughter of the head of the PTA; Crazy Rich Asians ‘Awkwafina as publicist Ms. Sheldon; and Key and Peele‘s Keegan-Michael Key as Principal Hawkins, a love interest for Streep’s character.

With regards to who will be playing the lead, the search for Emma, the teenager at the center of the story, is still in progress. There is no doubt that those will be some pretty big shoes to fill given the talent of the cast so far so here’s hoping they find their diamond in the rough.

The Prom is currently slated for a Fall 2020 release at this time.
