Sometimes an email is all you need to land a job.
Yes, you need to nail the interview and the like, but, sometimes, you need that email in order to cinch it.
It’s clearly a lesson that Anthony Mackie took to heart as he campaigned for the role of Sam Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In an interview with Men’s Health, the actor shared how he landed his dream gig. “My line was ‘Yo, I’m the black dude from The Hurt Locker. I would love to work with you guys’.”
To be fair, it’s a pretty good line. Mackie’s take on Sam Wilson has proven to be a fan favorite role and, much like his comic counterpart, he’s taken on the mantel of Captain America. He also shared about his love for the Falcon.
“Growing up, I’d always loved Falcon, because he was a comic book hero who was black who didn’t have ‘Black’ in the title. He stood on his morals. He stood on who he was.”
Mackie will reprise his role as Sam Wilson in the upcoming Disney+ series Falcon and Winter Soldier. It will also star his Marvel cohort Sebastian Stan.
Hopefully, we’ll get to see Mackie suit up in his Captain America suit for the series. We’re more than here for it.
You can see Mackie in Avengers: Endgame which is heading back to theatres for a victory lap.
