The latest offering of the DC Universe streaming service, Swamp Thing, will premiere on Friday, May 31st.
Unlike the action drama Titans and the tragic comedy of Doom Patrol, this series takes a sharp turn into horror and stays there. Based on the character of the same thing, Swamp Thing has been a cult favorite character for decades, especially with the work that Alan Moore did on the character in the 80s.
We’ve seen teasers and snippets of the series, but we have the first full trailer. It looks equal parts horrifying and beautiful (though we have to wonder why it was cut to 10-episodes rather than the original 13).
The trailer follows Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed) who returns to her Louisiana hometown as a member of the CDC to figure out a mysterious illness that seems to originate from the swamp. The deeper Abby gets pulled into the case, the more strange things she sees (such as plants growing out of a corpse). Joining her in the search is Alec Holland (Andy Bean), who is investigating illegal dumping in the swamp. Of course, he eventually becomes the titular Swamp Thing (Derek Mears), but he may not be the most monstrous thing Abby and the townsfolk will have to face.
No, that could go to Jason Woodrue (Kevin Durand), who is a scientist tinkering with the biology in the swamp. DC fans will recognize the name of the supervillain and longtime nemesis of Swamp Thing, Floronic Man.
