It looks the cast of James Gunn’s soft reboot/sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad has grown again.

Wrestling legend and actor John Cena is being eyed for a role in The Suicide Squad, according to Variety.

There’s no word yet on who the WWE star will play in the upcoming film. If he does join, then he will be in excellent company. Both Margot Robbie and Jai Courtney will reprise their roles for the 2016 film while Idris Elba will play a currently undisclosed character.

Either way, it’s shaping up to be quite a cast for James Gunn’s first DC film.

Cena has recently appear in several high profile studio films and has a drawn a lot of critical praise for his roles. His comedic timing in Blockers was excellent and was a lot of fun to watch in Bumblebee. He also has roles in upcoming projects such as The Voyage Of Doctor Dolittle, Playing With Fire, and will reunite with former WWE star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in The Janson Directive.

This film will mark Cena’s first comic book role.

Gunn was tapped to direct The Suicide Squad back in 2018 after Disney fired him for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 after some old inappropriate tweets resurfaced. Gunn apologized for the offensive tweets and made it clear that he has grown since then.

Even with jumping to DC and Warner Bros, Gunn was hired back at Disney for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 earlier this year. Though he has made it clear that The Suicide Squad will be his first commitment.

The Suicide Squad will hit theatres on August 6th, 2021.
