The In The Heights film is shaping up to be quite the production as far as the cast is concerned.
The man behind the magic, Lin-Manuel Miranda has been kindly dropping casting news knowledge on fans about the upcoming film adaptation. On Tuesday, the entertainer announced more names that are joining the cast. Miranda revealed Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) is joining the crew in the role of salon worker Carla. Also announced on Tuesday, Daphne Rubin-Vega (the original Mimi from Rent) will be joining as Carla’s boss, salon owner and the gossip queen of the neighborhood Daniela. Last but not least, Miranda also shared that Dascha Polanco (Orange is the New Black) is also slated to join as Cuca.
Beatriz, Rubin-Vega, and Polanco are joining Anthony Ramos (Hamilton) as Usnavi the bodega owner, and Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) as Benny. As for who will be Usnavi’s love interest Vanessa, Melissa Barrera was previously announced as joining for that role while Leslie Grace will be Nina.
Olga Merediz was also announced to be reprising her role as Abuela Claudia with Gregory Diaz IV is slated to be Sonny. Also joining is Jimmy Smits, who will play Kevin Rosario.
Given that this film, which follows the story of the immigrant residents of Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood during one sweltering summer, is being produced by Miranda and is being directed by Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians), we have no doubt that this will be a smash.
In The Heights will be hitting theaters on June 26,2020.
