Supergirl will debut its Lex Luthor on its March 17th episode, “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”

We have to be honest in that with the announcement that it’s Jon Cryer in the role, we were a little concerned. Cryer’s a great actor, but he just seemed a little old for the part. Much like how Tyler Hoechlin seemed a bit young for the part of Clark Kent/Superman when he was announced.

We’re withholding judgement until we see Cryer in the role. It certainly sounds like the episode will be an interesting one. Mainly because it seems to be a long awaited confrontation between the Luthor siblings. We’re ready to see how he and Kate McGrath play off each other.

Also we think Lex is also working with Kasnia, who has Red Daughter (Melissa Benoist), and is mind-controlling the President (Bruce Boxleitner). So we’re ready to see how he fits into the back-half of season four.

Between the episode synopsis and these new images of Lena and Lex, we’re ready to see how it all shakes out.

The synopsis for the episode is as follows:

Secretly furloughed from prison due to failing health, Lex Luthor (guest star Jon Cryer) visits his sister, Lena (Katie McGrath), to seek her help finding a cure. Savvy as ever, Lena is suspicious of Lex’s motives but when she’s faced with a life and death situation, she must decide how she truly feels about her brother.

Meanwhile, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and J’onn (David Harewood) face off against Manchester Black (guest star David Ajala). James’ sister Kelly (guest star Azie Tesfai) comes to town.

Lex’s failing health isn’t that much of a surprise. One explanation, in comics, is that Lex develops an illness due to an overexposure to Kryptonite thanks to his war suit. We’ve seen said suit, so it’s not that surprising. Plus being sick ages people, so it can explain why Lex looks older than Lena.

Though it is weird to see him with a beard, Cryer rocks it.

Supergirl airs Sundays at 8/7c on the CW.
