Criminal Minds Casts Rachael Leigh Cook As Reid’s Love Interest In Final Season

The era of Criminal Minds will officially come to an end with its 15th season. It’s definitely a bummer to see the show close, but well it was probably time for it to end.

Hopefully, this bit of news will cool some ire from the fans over the season 14 finale. During it, J.J. (A.J. Cook) confessed her love for Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler). Hopefully. This latest bit of casting news, however, has us hoping that maybe it won’t go down a romantic road for J.J. and Reid.

According to TVLine, Rachael Leigh Cook (Perception) will join the final season as Reid’s love interest. Her character, Max, is described as “a quirky, kind-hearted, candid woman who strikes up an unusual relationship [with Reid]”. She’s scheduled to be in two of the final 10 episodes of the procedural.

For those who don’t remember, J.J. said, “I’ve always loved you. I was just too scared to say it before. And things are really just too complicated to say it now…. But you should know.”

Showrunner Erica Messer promised some resolution to the shocking (and ill received by fans) confession. Hopefully, we’ll see where that’ll go. The final season will have an overarching plot, focusing on confrontation with serial killer Everett Lynch (Michael Mosley).

Criminal Minds will air its final season during the 2019-2020 television season.
