Shazam! will hit theatres in only a few months.

While the trailers for the film have use more than excited, many fans are a little disappointed that Black Adam wasn’t in it. One Shazam (Zachary Levi) classic villains, the character was also blessed with godlike abilities from the Wizard Shazam and to be a hero. Ultimately, however, this power corrupted Black Adam in a big way. He was pretty angry over Billy Batson (Asher Angel) having those abilities as well. In comics, he’s vacillates between a villain and anti-hero.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been contracted to play the Black Adam role for DC and Warner Brothers. Rather than be in the Shazam! film, it was announced that he would have a solo project with Johnson attached to star.

In the upcoming Shazam!, even more classic villain Doctor Sivana (Mark Strong) will go up against the newly created hero. According to director David F. Sandberg, that was always going to be the plan.

On a visit to the Shazam! set, Sandberg told Comicbook.com, “Yeah, when I came on board it was like, we’re already doing that standalone Shazam movie, you know. And I know the project existed in various forms before but I haven’t really, you know, I’m not really familiar with them all around.”

It makes sense to just let the film be its own thing. Doctor Sivana was the original arch-nemesis to Shazam (back when he was Captain Marvel). It makes sense that he would be the first villain the first live-action iteration of the character would come up against.

Shazam! hits theatres on April 5th.
