“I see a little silhouetto of a man…”
Hands up who has now got Bohemian Rhapsody in their head. Keep your hand up if you’re now singing it out loud. Yep me too. It’s practically impossible to hear the song and not want to join in. That was what made watching Bohemian Rhapsody in cinemas so hard… so many iconic Queen hits scattered through the film and yet you had to “obey film protocol” and keep quiet. Well not anymore.
With the success of hit musical sing-along screenings, it was only time before Bohemian Rhapsody jumped on the bandwagon and delivered up its own sing-along version, but it’s only available in limited US and Canadian cinemas.
Following the film’s surprising success at last weekend’s Golden Globes – taking home not only Best Actor for lead Rami Malek (Freddie Mercury) but also Best Drama – many will want a repeat viewing and this is no doubt, the way you want to see the film. Beginning this Friday, 750 locations across North America will be showing this new released version announced Fox and New Regency yesterday (January 9).
“We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to see this outstanding Golden Globe-winning film featuring Rami Malek’s amazing Golden Globe-winning performance in theaters all over the U.S. and Canada in both its original form and in a never-before-experienced ‘sing-along’ version,” said Chris Aronson, Fox’s president of domestic distribution, in a statement.
Bohemian Rhapsody follows the highs and lows of Queen, focusing on frontman Mercury, from their formative years to their killer performance at Live Aid in 1985. While many have applauded Malek’s performance (including myself), the film itself received a very mixed reaction. However, that hasn’t stopped the film from becoming the highest-grossing music biopic of all time. The announcement of these sing-along screenings is only going to add to this.
Sing-along Bohemian Rhapsody is in select cinemas from tomorrow.
