In case you’ve forgotten, Mark Hamill is a fantastic actor and he can transform himself and especially his voice for a role. He did, after all, win a BAFTA for voicing The Joker. Now he’s traded in his lightsaber for a medieval sword and joined the second season of History’s Knightfall in what looks to be a juicy role.
Hamill plays Talus, a veteran of the Crusades and battle-hardened Knight Templar. He spent 10 years being held captive in the Holy Land and, now that he’s free, he is assigned to train the Order’s new initiates. But trouble is brewing between Talus and Landry, Knightfall’s lead, played by Tom Cullen. The teaser, which debuted earlier this week during History’s Vikings, sets up the conflict between the two men.
Is it just me or is there a little bit of The Joker is Hamill’s Talus? Even if there’s not, I love Hamill’s take on this grizzly Templar. The sword in the teaser is significant as a symbol of what will unite and divide the brotherhood this season. More ominously, the flame foreshadows what awaits on the Templars on Friday the 13th.
Knightfall explores a part of the Medieval period that was brutal, gritty, and dark, especially for the Templars. The series dives into the politics and warfare of the Knights Templar, which served as the most powerful, wealthy, and mysterious military order of the Middle Ages. Viewers get to explore the secret world of this legendary brotherhood of warrior monks and learn about who they were, how they lived, and what they believing.
Season two of Knightfall is expected to premiere later this year.
