One of the more interesting projects coming out later in 2019 is a miniseries for FX about the relationship/partnership between Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon. Fosse, a director and choreographer, had a lucrative relationship with Verdon, one of the best dancers to come out of Broadway.
Together, the pair of them worked on such projects as Damn Yankees (Verdon originated the role of Lola), Sweet Charity, and Chicago. In addition to their professional relationship, the pair had a tumultuous personal romance off-screen.
The FX series is described as “the romantic and creative partnership between Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon. He was a filmmaker and one of theater’s most influential choreographers and directors; she was the greatest Broadway dancer of all time. Together, they changed the face of American entertainment — at a perilous cost.”
The miniseries will be eight episodes long with Hamilton‘s Thomas Kail and Lin-Manuel Miranda serving as executive producers. Kail serves as director for four of the episodes and was showrunned by Steve Levenson (Dear Evan Hansen). It will star Sam Rockwell as Bob Fosse and Michelle Williams as Gwen Verdon.
