Here’s The Story Behind Oliver’s Chest-Puffing In “Elseworlds”

The first part of “Elseworlds” brought us so many great moments. For instance, we had the entire opening with Oliver (Stephen Amell) waking up to Iris (Candice Patton). We had Barry (Grant Gustin) enjoying his Green Arrow abilities and getting his sweet revenge on Oliver. We had Kara (Melissa Benoist) being generally a delight and adorable.

Then we had Barry and Oliver meeting Superman (Tyler Hoechlin). Barry was what we assumed noted Superman fan Grant Gustin would be like in that situation.

Oliver, meanwhile, puffed up his chest like a bird in the wild, leading to this interaction. It’s easily the best of the night.

We’re pretty sure that it’s Barry’s face at the end that makes the entire scene.

Apparently, there’s a true story behind how that little sequence came to be.

Tweeted by The Flash’s writers room, the story goes like this: “okay: oliver’s “chest puffing” gag was inspired by the true story of when @PoundThomas saw @StephenAmell walking down the hall and realized he had instinctively puffed up his chest in response. and now it is immortalized #TheFlash #Elseworlds”

God bless these nerds.

“Elseworlds” concludes on December 11th at 8/7c on the CW.
