Elle Fanning is making sure she’s that “girl you’re taking home” in the first trailer for the musical-drama Teen Spirit.
A small town girl in Europe, Violet (Fanning) dreams of making a better life for herself. In order to achieve her dream, she signs up for Teen Spirit, an international singing competition. As Fanning performs a pretty solid cover of Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own”, we see as Violet pushes herself in order to win with brief glimpses of her rise through the competition ranks all the while.
Max Minghella (The Handmaid’s Tale) will direct the feature. Honestly, the real star for the movie seems to be the music. At the end, there is a list of singers and acts that Fanning will cover throughout the film: Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Grimes, The Undertones, Aqua, Alice Deejay, Whitfield, Major Lazer and No Doubt. There are others as well, but it would take forever to list them all. There will also be an original song called “Wildflowers”, which was penned by Carly Rae Jepsen and Jack Antonoff.
The film premiered during the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, where it recieved pretty positive reviews. The rest of us, however, will see the film debut on April 5th.
