There’s one caption about John Constantine that I feel sums up the character perfectly. Now, give the use of the f-bomb, I can’t actually post it here.
It’s also just too perfect: “And there’s a jolly Englishman. His name is John Constantine. He’s f****d things up again.”
I mean, that’s it. That’s the character and his comics.
The one adage that the Legends live by is not mucking up with the past. Now John tried to do that back in the third episode when he tried to take his boot to his father’s family jewels in order to prevent his own birth. It didn’t work out.
It’s going to work in the Legends crossover episode, “Legends Of To-Meow-Meow” where the team meets alternate versions of themselves. Why? John mucked with history. He mucked with it good.
“After Constantine breaks the cardinal Legend rule, you can’t change the past, he, along with Charlie and Zari try to deal with the ramifications without telling the rest of the Legends. Even though Zari encourages them to just fix the problem, Constantine and Charlie are determined to find another way, but only continue to make things worse.”
It makes sense that Zari (Tala Ashe) would help as she wrestles with her own want of saving her family. Charlie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) is a rebel, course she’s along for the ride.
So what event does John change? Our money is on him saving Astra, which is probably the thing that John wants to take back most in the world. Though there is mystery. If it turns out he is Oliver from Constantine: The Hellblazer series from Ming Doyle, then that dude had two little girls. It’s possible John would want to save their dad.
Who knows? It promises to be an awesome midseason finale, which is good because we’re not getting a new episode until April.
Legends Of Tomorrow airs Mondays at 9/8c on the CW. It will air its midseason finale on December 10th.
