There is a new HBO series set to go into production from the same team that worked on Big Little Lies.
The new series, The Undoing, will star Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant, and it has just been announced that acting legend Donald Sutherland will also join the cast.
The show is an adaption of Jean Hanff Korelitz’s 2014 book You Should Have Known. It is a psychological thriller which tells the story of successful therapist Grace Sachs, played by Kidman, who on the eve of publishing her first book, finds a chasm opens up in her life involving a violent death, a missing husband, and a chain of terrible revelations.
Donald Sutherland, known for a slew of films over the last 6 decades including classics like The Dirty Dozen through to The Hunger Games, will play Kidman’s father.
While Kidman has worked with HBO on the smash hit Big Little Lies, based on the book of the same name by Australian author Liane Moriarty, it will be Grant’s first outing with the production team. He takes on the role of the husband, Jonathan and is described as an “acclaimed pediatric oncologist, devoted husband to Grace and doting father, whose past undergoes scrutiny when he suddenly disappears”.
The script is being penned by David E. Kelley who also worked on Big Little Lies, and all six episodes are being directed by Susanne Bier who directed the highly acclaimed BBC/AMC series The Night Manager starring Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie.
HBO programming president Casey Bloys said in a statement earlier in the week “We’re thrilled to continue our creative relationships with both Nicole and David and can’t wait to bring this show to life.”
