The X-Men franchise is about to get a major shake-up. Again.
It was announced today that several of the upcoming projects will be shuffled around. Fox will be pushing X-Men: Dark Phoenix and the consistently delayed Gambit movie back. Meanwhile, an untitled Deadpool movie will hit theatres this December.
Many fans think that the Deadpool project will be a PG-13 rerelease of Deadpool 2.
Who knows? Maybe there was a second secret movie being filmed along with the sequel. Given how tricky Ryan Reynolds could be? We wouldn’t be shocked. The untitled Deadpool will go up against Aquaman and Bumblebee on December 21st.
Reynolds teased something coming as he recreated a scene from The Princess Bride with Fred Savage reprising his role as the Kid in Bed and Deadpool stepping in as the grandfather.

The move does seem surprising following the release of the first trailer for Dark Phoenix, which had the original release date of February 14th, 2019. It has been moved to a more blockbuster friendly June 7th, 2019.
Finally, the long-gestating and still directorless Gambit has shifted from June 7th, 2019 to March 13th, 2020. Though, honestly, with the Fox-Disney merger going forward, who knows if the Channing Tatum-starrer will still be on the slate.
Previously, Fox has also moved the horror-tinged New Mutants from April 13th, 2018 to August 2nd, 2019. This is also the second time that Dark Phoenix has been delayed, reportedly to undergo some extensive reshoots.
