Supergirl is back in town!
With faces new and old surrounding her, the series dropped its first trailer comprised of new footage. In the trailer, we finally get our first look at Nicole Maines as TV’s first transgender superhero Nia Nal/Dreamer and Sam Witwer as Agent Liberty.
While last season was, frankly, a hot mess, the new trailer looks…good. It, at least, looks more like Supergirl, for better or worse.
The moment that honestly gave me the most hope is when Kara (Melissa Benoist) offers Nia some advice. It also seems to be focused on the show’s central question for the season: “What is stronger hope or fear?”
She says, “Fear — no matter how much we believe in ourselves, that never really goes away. I think, ‘I’m not afraid of anything,’ but then something chases me back down the rabbit hole. But once we catch ourselves, we have to jump right back out there.”
Have to admit, those are definitely some wise words.
Plus we get a new look at Kara’s (temporary?) new costume. Complete with convenient blacked out helmet due to Melissa Benoist being in New York for the first three weeks of filming for her stint on Broadway in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.
Honestly, we are wondering if the trailer title is a shoutout to Max Landis’ Superman: American Alien. (Which you should all check out by the by.)
Supergirl returns on Sunday, October 14th at 8/7c on the CW.
