Captain Marvel boasts a lot of excellent things in its favor. It’s the first solo female superhero movie in the MCU. It also introduces the Skrulls to the film franchise as well. It promises to be as 90s as possible (we get to see Brie Larson sporting a Nine Inch Nails t-shirt).
Something longtime fans of the MCU are looking forward to is seeing Clark Gregg on the big screen again as Phil Coulson. Both he and Samuel L. Jackson will be playing younger versions of their fan fave Marvel characters.
Gregg talked with Entertainment Weekly about the film. Okay, not really talked, but he did definitely misdirect about what to expect from this younger Coulson.
“He’s a relatively new S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who is obsessed with MC Hammer and dresses just like him, and it makes Director Fury so angry. The genie pants don’t really go with the Armani.”
Somehow, we’re seriously doubting that.
Will the duo have some kind of “meet-cute” moment in the film? Gregg doesn’t think “cute” describes the meeting.
“I don’t think Sam will put it that way.”
As for going back in time, Gregg said that after a couple movies, two shorts, and a 100+ episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it took awhile to figure out what a more innocent version of Coulson would be like.
“There was something really special about going back to the early days when he was just kind of coming up the ranks. I had to take innocence workshops and go back to when he was a little less crusty and jaded!”
