Captain Marvel is the first Marvel Cinematic Universe film to have a solo female hero headlining the title. While the MCU has been populated by kickass female heroes, this is the first time a female hero has been the sole focus of a film.
Plus Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) is pretty much universally beloved by comic fans. We’ve been waiting to see her in the MCU for years.
To be totally honest, we’ve all been freaking out since Good Morning America posted the news that they will drop the trailer today (Tuesday, September 18th) the previous night.

The story of the film has been kept a bit vague and the synopsis hasn’t helped much.
“The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
What we do know is that it will be the first live-action appearance of the shapeshifting Skrulls in the MCU. It will also possibly adapt the Secret Invasion storyline. In addition, Danvers will have had her powers for years and left the Air Force in order to join the elite Kree team, Starforce.
