This week marks the kickoff of the Fall TV season, and we couldn’t be happier. The summer drought is finally over, and we will finally be getting some new viewing material.
To celebrate the return of the television shows and their new seasons, we’ve decided to take the time to celebrate five epic returns to the small screen. While there are quite a lot of shows returning and some making their debuts this fall TV season, these five shows and their returns really will be the ones to watch and flail over.
Without further ado, please check out list below of the five shows we are most excited to see return this fall!
This show may be one of the longest running television dramas currently but that doesn’t mean it is out of fresh ideas to thrill us. Its upcoming eleventh season will be one for the history books as it will be introducing us to the current incarnation of The Doctor, Thirteen, who made her debut in the closing moments of “Twice Upon a Time”, the 2017 Christmas special. Jodie Whittaker will be making history as she is the first woman to portray the character in the series.
With a new female Doctor, three companions, and a new showrunner, this new season is one you will not want to miss.
This one almost didn’t make the list for the fall TV season as it was first canceled by Fox in May but saved by the wonderful NBC. After binging on this one all summer long, it’s not hard to see why it was saved, not to mention why it also practically ruled San Diego Comic Con this year. It is not your typical cop comedy either as it does tackle some of society’s serious issues.
The chemistry between the cast is flawless, and the one liners are quite epic as you’ll find yourself quoting them throughout your day. Season five ended on a bit of cliffhanger as far Captain Holt’s future in the precinct is concerned but still made us smile nonetheless with Amy and Jake’s tear-worthy wedding.
The Good Place
If you haven’t checked this comedy out, you are missing out for sure as this one is pure gold. It also took over San Diego Comic Con this summer with its offsite interactive experience, which made you feel like you were in the Good place.
For those who may not know too much about this series, it follows Eleanor Shellstrop (played brilliantly by Kristen Bell) who wakes up in the afterlife and is introduced by Michael (played by Ted Danson) to “The Good Place”, a highly selective Heaven-esque utopia he designed. All of this sounds awesome to her except for the pesky little fact that she was sent there by mistake.
Now entering its third season, it will be interesting to see what the show does now as it keeps giving us jaw dropping twists for its season finales, leaving us wondering all summer long what is going to happen next.
American Horror Story: Apocalypse
Now we are slightly cheating by adding this one to the list as it has already aired two episodes at the time of this writing. To be fair though, it isn’t really truly fall until you get to feast your eyes on the latest installment of the hit horror anthology series.
This new outing is providing us an interesting take as it will be a crossover featuring past characters (and a lot of fan favorites to boot) from Murder House and Coven. While we have yet to see the witches on our screens, the craziness has already started, given its end of the world theme this go round. Plus, this season marks the return of Jessica Lange to the world of AHS as she hasn’t been in the series since Freak Show but has definitely been missed.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow
Now entering its fourth season, this is one of those shows that truly gets better and stronger with time. I won’t lie; it was looking rough after its first season but truly found its footing in the second season and has been a runaway hit since then. Just when you thought it couldn’t top featuring the Legion of Doom as its antagonist, the show managed to outdo itself by giving us Beebo, the ultimate warrior, featured heavily in the season three finale.
The show will undoubtedly be upping the ante as it is bringing John Constantine to the show, a character audiences have longed loved ever since he had his own series. Constantine has graced up with his presence before on the show with a visit or two but this go round, he is here to stay and help the Legends deal with the consequences of their actions.
