It’s a good week to be a Clockblocker aka a fan of the drama series Timeless. It appears that all the campaigning to have the show come back after cancellation has finally paid off as the show has been been sort of renewed.
It was announced on Tuesday that NBC has struck a deal with Sony Pictures Television to bring back the series for a two-hour finale as a wrap up for the series. This should please many fans as the fandom surrounding the beloved show has been quite vocal about getting a proper ending.
The executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke had this to say about the last minute reprieved. “While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of Timeless, this is the next best thing,” said Ryan and Kripke in a statement. “We’re thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”
Kripke and Ryan also offered up these encouraging words to the fans as far as what their expectations should be. “They can expect the Timeless they know and love. A focus on the unsung and underrepresented people of history. And most importantly, one final emotional story for the Time Team,” shared Kripke and Ryan.
As far as who will be returning for the series finale, Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, and Malcolm Barrett are already set to return. The cast took to Twitter to share their reactions to the news and to thank their fans for their campaigns.

Given that the show ended with a cliffhanger, which involved (SPOILER ALERT) their characters from an alternate timeline asking them for help to save Rufus, it is only fitting that this wrap up film is happening.
As for when the Timeless finale film will air, it is set for release later on this year, most likely just in time for the holidays.
