Survival Seems A Luck Of The Draw In New Promo For American Horror Story: Apocalypse

It may be one of the catchphrases from another popular franchise, but if you are going to survive the Apocalypse, I think you are certainly going to be praying that the odds be ever in your favour. At least that’s the impression you get from the latest promo for the upcoming eighth season of American Horror Story.

Released yesterday (August 22), not only do we get one of our first real look at the season, but we also get introduced to one of the new characters, though she is slightly familiar.

Apocalypse is the much-touted crossover between season one’s Murder House and season three’s Coven. We can expect to see a whole host of familiar characters returning once again, including Sarah Paulson’s medium Billie Dean (Murder House) and the Supreme Cordelia (Coven), however, it’s as neither of these characters that Paulson appears as in this promo.

No, dressed in a severe pantsuit and slicked back hair, there’s no sign of softer, earthier, grounded characters Paulson portrayed in either season. This character is emotionless, unfeeling, a straight-shooter and you are going to want to hang on her every word. Spinning what appears to be a lottery contraption, inside of balls of numbers, there’s a small collection of slips of paper and who knows what’s written on them (names perhaps?). Speaking directly to the audience, Paulson states: “Now is your chance to be one of the few remaining. This is your chance to survive. We’ll find you soon.” You are then prompted to visit TheBeginningIsNear.TV (the website is real by the way and if you’re a US legal resident, you might want to visit).

So who else got chills watching that? Yeah and not the good kind either.

It was revealed at the AHS panel at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that Paulson would be playing three characters this season. I think it’s a fair guess to say that the one we see here is the new character Venerable. Just who she is, what she’s doing and her role in the whole thing will not doubt not be further explained until the season begins.

Returning with Paulson are AHS regulars Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Adina Porter, Cheyenne Jackson, Billy Eichner, and Leslie Grossman. Making a welcome return are Emma Roberts, Taissa Farmiga, Gabourey Sidibe, Lily Rabe, Frances Conroy and Stevie Nicks, with Jessica Lange appearing in the Paulson-directed episode. Newcomers to the franchise include Joan Collins, Billie Lourd, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, Cody Fern, and Billy Porter.

American Horror Story: Apocalypse returns to FX on September 12.
