Star Trek: Discovery Finds Its Spock In Ethan Peck

The search for the perfect Spock is finally over for Star Trek: Discovery.

After a grueling search, CBS has revealed that it has found someone to play one of the most pivotal role in the Star Trek universe. Ethan Peck has landed the role, which should delight fans everywhere as many have been most anxious for the half human, half Vulcan to make his appearance on the hit series.

The expectations for the actor are already high but showrunner Alex Kurtzman shared some insight as to why it took so long to cast the role. “Through 52 years of television and film, a parallel universe and a mirror universe, Mr. Spock remains the only member of the original bridge crew to span every era of Star Trek,” shared Kurtzman. “The great Leonard Nimoy, then the brilliant Zachary Quinto, brought incomparable humanity to a character forever torn between logic and emotion. We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role. An actor who would, like them, effortlessly embody Spock’s greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion, and yearning. Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities, aware of his daunting responsibility to Leonard, Zack, and the fans, and ready to confront the challenge in the service of protecting and expanding on Spock’s legacy. In that spirit, we’re thrilled to welcome him to the family.”

Peck also shared his feelings about landing the role, revealing his understanding of what kind of responsibility comes with the role. The actor took to Instagram to share his thoughts.

Peck is no stranger to the small screen. He previously appeared on In Time, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and 10 Things I Hate About You.

As previously mentioned, Spock’s appearance is one that fans have been waiting on, especially since the season 1 finale, where the U.S.S. Enterprise was revealed. Needless to say, since Spock is the foster brother of Sonequa Martin-Green’s character Michael, it is safe to say that his presence has been long overdue, and Peck’s addition to the cast should definitely up the ante.

There is still ways to go until Peck makes his debut on the show as Star Trek: Discovery is slated to return in early 2019.
