Riverdale will return this fall bringing with it the typical insanity that we all know and love. Really? We couldn’t be happier. The fifth highest rated show on the CW (trailing The Flash, Black Lightning, Supernatural, and Supergirl) hits the right balance between soapy elements and insanity.
Originally, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was meant to be a Riverdale spin-off before the move to Netflix. It looks like the move to the streaming platform, which also boasts high numbers for Riverdale, has crushed any hopes for a Sabrina-Riverdale crossover in the new future.
At a Television Critics Association press event, CW president Mark Pedowitz and Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa admitted to having other spin-off plans for the series.
According to Aguirre-Sacasa, “We’re really excited, but we’re still early on in the process.” He did say that the project was for the 2019-20 television season. It will, however, be quite different from Riverdale.
As for that Sabrina-Riverdale crossover? Aguirre-Sacasa said, “Right now, we’re trying to make sure that the shows have their own identity and their own set of rules.”
Though when they are ready, I’m sure no one will have trouble believing that Riverdale has a Satanic cult or something in town. Not when the other cult will appear in season three.
Riverdale will premiere Wednesday, October 10th at 8/7c on the CW.
