The Supreme has returned. Or has she? During this year’s Television Critics Association press tour, Sarah Paulson revealed that Jessica Lange will return to American Horror Story for season eight, and in an episode that Paulson herself is directing. Lange is scheduled to reprise one of her roles from a previous season, but it may not be the one you’d like.
It was previously confirmed that the upcoming season, titled Apocalypse, would be a crossover between season one’s Murder House, and season three’s Coven. Apocalypse will be set in the near future, ca fall 2019, and will literally deal with the end of the world. While many of us loved Lange as the baddest of all witches in season three of the horror anthology series, the AHS icon will return as her character from Murder House, Constance Langdon.
Apocalypse will tell the story of Michael Langdon, the devil child of Vivien Harmon and Tate Langdon, which Constance adopted. In the final moments of season one we saw a three-year old Michael murder his nanny, in true antichrist fashion. For season eight it seems we will finally find out what Constance and Michael were up to. A grown up Michael will be played by Cody Fern, whose previous credits include House of Cards and American Crime Story: Versace.
In addition to the Langdon family, season eight will see the return of Evan Peters as a comedic hairdresser arriving with his grandmother, played by Joan Collins, Sarah Paulson as a yet still unknown character, but wearing “dental appliances”, as well as Kathy Bates, whose character will be closely linked to Paulson’s. More familiar faces set for return include Billie Lourd, Emma Roberts, Adina Porter, Cheyenne Jackson, Billy Eichner, and Leslie Grossman.

AHS has not been the same without Jessica Lange, and her return ups the excitement for the new season. Many will agree that Murder House and Coven were some of the best seasons of the series, and it will be thrilling to see what Ryan Murphy does with the potential that a combination of both brings to the table. However, we’d still love to see the return of the Supreme…
American Horror Story: Apocalypse will premiere Wednesday, September 12 at 10/9 CT on FX.
