Oscar winner Mahershala Ali looks to have his hands full in his latest project as he takes the lead for the third season of the hit series True Detective. After being teased on Sunday as part of their upcoming big fall season, HBO released the trailer to the upcoming third season.
The third season will follow “the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods,” according to HBO.
As for Ali, his character Wayne Hays, will be the main focus. Hays is a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas. Joining the actor as his partner, Roland West, is Stephen Dorff. West is an Arkansas State Investigator whose career has been influenced by a baffling crime Arkansas.
Rounding out the cast are Ray Fisher as Wayne’s son and Carmen Ejogo as Amelia Reardon, a schoolteacher.

This upcoming season definitely has a different feel to it as it looks like it will much more a flashback driven narrative in comparison to the previous seasons. It also gives off a more ominous tone as far as the suspense is concerned.
The trailer already gives viewers a lot to digest as Ali is already 100% making this his own and giving us already quite a range of depth and emotions. Looking forward to seeing how different this series will be and how it will do better than season 2, which was a bit of a lackluster season unfortunately despite having quite the stellar cast.
There is no premiere date for True Detective season 3 at this time.
