Lizzie Borden is a name that is etched in the American consciousness as the notorious would-be axe murderer, who killed her father and step-mother. She was acquitted of these charges at trial, but most believe that she got away with murder.
Even in the modern day, the name Lizzie Borden still captures the imagination. There have been documentaries, movies, even a television show focusing on her.
It looks like we will be getting another film to add to the roster. A newly released trailer for Lizzie dropped today, which shows an interrogation scene, shots of the infamous murders, and Lizzie’s abuse at the hands of her father.
Lizzie, which stars Chloe Sevigny and Kristen Stewart, follows the relationship of Lizzie Borden (Sevigny) and Bridget Sullivan (Stewart). Sullivan comes to live with the Borden family as a maid and secretly develops an intimate relationship with Lizzie.
Also starring in the film are Fiona Shaw as stepmother Abby Borden; Jamey Sheridan as Lizzie’s father, Andrew Borden; and Kim Dickens as Lizzie’s sister, Emma Borden.
Denis O’Hare, Jeff Perry, and Jay Huguley also star.
Lizzie hits theatres on September 14th.
